Questions

Do I have to charge VAT?
Only if you are VAT registered. You must register once your VAT taxable turnover goes over the registration threshold (£90,000 a year since April 2024). Below that, registering is optional.
What is the tax point?
The tax point (time of supply) is usually the date you delivered the goods or finished the service. If you invoice within 14 days of that date, the invoice date can be the tax point.
What VAT rates are there?
Standard 20%, reduced 5% (for example home energy) and zero rate 0% (for example most food and children's clothes). Some supplies are exempt.
Can I invoice a business in the EU?
Yes. For most business-to-business services you don't charge UK VAT; add the customer's VAT number and the reverse charge note in Tax note.
Is it free?
Yes. Make, download and print as many UK invoices as you need, with no watermark and no sign-up.
